BLOGMAS Day 18 - Peppermint Creams Recipe

"Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories
and love of kindred, and we are better throughout
the year for having, in spirit, become a child again
at Christmas" - Laura Ingalls Wilder
A few days ago I told you that my nan and I make two treats every Christmas, Rum balls - see the post here - and peppermint creams. They're so delicious and refreshing plus, super quick and easy to make!

 Ingrediants;
  • 450g Icing sugar
  • 1 egg white
  • a few drops of peppermint essence
  • food colouring

*If you want to make chocolate peppermint creams- 100g plain chocolate*

  1. Sift the icing sugar into a bowl.
  2. Whisk the egg white in a seperate bowl until its frothy.
  3. Then add it to the icing sugar with a few drops of peppermint essence.
  4. Mix it together with a wooden spoon to make a thick paste.
  5. Knead the paste with your hands until it is smooth.
  6. To make your coloured ones- take some of your mixture and put it into a seperate bowl. Then add one or two drops of food colouring. Mix it well.
  7. Use your hands to make small balls of the paste, then flatten to make a disc shape.
  8. If you want to make chocolate peppermint creams, melt your plain chocolate, and coat your discs.
  9. Leave them on a wire rack to harden.
  10. Enjoy!

What is your favourite Christmas treat?

Merry Christmas.

BLOGMAS Day 17 - Christmas Jokes

"At Christmas play and make good cheer,
for Christmas comes but once a year"

I'm quite a competitive person, and so is my family. So pulling the crackers can get pretty intense. None of us enjoy getting the crappy end. And I LOVE telling those stupid little jokes. I happen to find them highly amusing. Which usually results in me taking 5 minutes to tell one joke through laughing so much. But Christmas day needs more than 9 jokes. So I've done a list of my favourite Xmas jokes to make sure you will be pulling all the crackers that day.

Who hides in a bakery at Christmas?
...
A mince spy

What do you Santa Claus when he doesn't move?
...
Santa Pause

What do you call people who are afraid of Santa Claus?
...
Claustrophobic

What's white and goes up?
...
A confused snowflake

What do you sing at a snowmans birthday party?
...
Freeze a jolly good fellow

What do vampires sing on New Years Eve?
...
Auld Fang Syne

What happened to the man who stole the advent calendar?
...
He got 25 days

Why did the turkey join the band?
...
Because he had the drumsticks

What athlete is warmest in winter?
...
The long jumper

What did the stamp say to the Christmas card?
...
Stick with me and we'll go places

Why did no one bit for Rudolph on ebay?
...
Because he was to deer

What did Father Christmas do when he went speed dating?
...
He pulled a cracker

Why don't you ever see Santa in Hospital?
...
Because he has private elf-care.

Come back tomorrow for another Christmas post.

Merry Christmas.

BLOGMAS Day 16 - Cute DIY Piece

"Christmas is all about love, family and
children. It doesn't matter what we eat
or what presents we get as long as the
holidays are spent with loved ones."

Today is just a quick step by step of a cute Chhristmas table decoration.
All you need is;

  • Glass/Plastic jar
  • wooden sticks (or even straws)
  • Pinecones
  • Paint
  • Paint brush
  • Pencil
  • Tinsel

  • Put two coats of paint on your jar.
  • Whilst the jar is drying, paint your pinecones.
  • Once the jar has dried, draw on any design you like - I used a pencil for this one. I don't trust myself to paint straight on to it.
  • If you used a pencil, start to paint your design.
  • Leaving the jar to dry a second time, stick your pine cones on to the wooden sticks (or straws) - You may need to cut the stick or straw down for it to fit into the jar.
  • Place tinsel in to the jar and stick the pinecones in.
*Add more pinecones to make it look perfect*

Merry Christmas

BLOGMAS Day 15 - Favourite Childhood Memory

"The bell still rings for me,
as it does for all who truly believe"

That quote above is the memory I am sharing with you today.

When I was younger my Christmas Eve tradition used to be a little different than the one I posted about yesterday. My auntie used to stay at my house. But we would all go to my nans in the evening to have some nibbles and a few drinks (in my case juice). And every year when we were walking back home I would hear bells. Guaranteed every year. And of course when I was younger I got really excited because of it.

Then about 2 years ago I mentioned it to my mum, who thought that it was my auntie Sue who always had the bells. So I spoke to my auntie about it, who thought it was my mum. After this, Sue told me about The Polar Express, which is where the quote above is from. I don't think either of them will ever tell me if it was them. Which I am happy about. Because I have always, and would like to always, believe in Christmas magic.

What is your favourite childhood memory?
And do you hear the bells on Christmas Eve?

Merry Christmas

BLOGMAS Day 14 - My Christmas Traditions

"Christmas waves a magic wand over
this world and behold, everything is
softer and more beautiful."

Christmas Eve - Xmas eve night is basically just me hinting and staring at my mum until she gives me my Christmas eve present. You all know what that is - PYJAMAS! I watch some kind of live music show (there always seems to be one on) with my mum and stepdad. And then, the bit that annoys my mum the most, I still make her put out carrots for the reindeer, along with milk and cookies for Santa. I'm being serious, I really connect with my 6 year old self at Christmas time. I think that's why I still lay awake in bed until 3am, bursting with excitement.

Christmas Day - Clock hits 6:30am and I am singing 'Rocking Around the Christmas Tree' at the top of my lungs to wake everyone up. The replies I get aren't to Christmassy but they get out of bed eventually. Christmas morning you will find me sitting, legs folded, infront of the presents underneath the tree. After the excitement of opening our presents, we have our bacon buttie. That has been our Christmas morning breakfast for as long as I can remember. I love the walk around to my nans house. It feels like Christmas morning, if that makes any sense to you. The atmosphere is just completely different. After more presents, its time for my Grandads favourite part of the day - the pub! We only go there for 2 hours but it's wonderful to see everyone, in my case people who have watched me grow up. But then we reach my favourite part of the day. Dinner time! My nan is pretty stressed out by this point, I think its mainly down to my brother walking in and out of the kitchen robbing the food. I hope I'm not the only one, but I think we should all pull our crackers before we dig into our dinners. Right?! Its a must that we sit at the table with our Christmas hats on.
I'm that person at the dinner table that asks 'are you finished with that' the moment you lay your knife and fork together. Damn right I want 2nds, 3rds, 4ths. I just don't seem to feel full on Christmas day, so if you and your family have leftovers just put em' in a box and send it over.
Oooooo, chocolate log. My substitute for Christmas cake.
We end the day off playing hilarious family games. We change it every year, we've done Just Dance, karaoke, trivia, pin the nose on rudolph. Which by the way, I totally should have won last year!

Well that is my typical Christmas.
What is your favourite Christmas tradition?
Let me know in the comments below

BLOGMAS Day 13 - Christmas Tree Reveal

"Never worry about the size of
your Christmas tree. In the eyes
of children, they are all 30 feet tall"

Decorating the tree, whilst listening to xmas music, is one of my favourite things to do at Christmas. This year I moved into my dads house so this December I got to decorate two trees - the one at my house (which is basically just a twig) and the tree at my mums. Lucky me!

I'm sure you'll be able to tell which tree is the twig in my house.

I am definitely buying a fuller tree for next year!

Have you got yours up yet?

Merry Christmas

BLOGMAS Day 12 - Chocolate Rum Balls Recipe

"It just isn't Christmas unless you push your
body to the brink of alcoholism and diabetes"

Every Christmas, my nan and I make gorgeous chocolate rumballs. And then put 4 or 5 in a little cellophane bag and finish it off with a cute Christmas bow. Its such a nice stocking filler for your family and friends.

Ingrediants
Sponge cake;
- 40g self raising flower
-10g cocoa
-50g caster sugar
-50g butter
-1 medium egg (beaten)
-1 tbsp milk
-1 tsp baking powder
 ...
-rum
-1 bar of dark chocolate
-toppings (chocolate sprinkles, chocolate drops etc)

Preheat oven - fan 160 ºC/ conventional 180 ºC - gas mark 4
We start off by making a chocolate sponge cake.

- In a mixing bowl or pan, sive the flour, and add your butter, baking powder and cocoa.
Then mix them together between your fingers. Mix in your egg using a fork, and add your milk. After mixing in your milk, if the mixture looks to dry, continue to add a little bit of milk at a time until you get a soft consistency.
- Get a cake dish or tin, and greese/line it using butter.
-Smooth the mixture out into cake dish.
- Bake for approx 20-25 minutes or until firm to the touch.
...
-Remove the cake from the dish, making sure it is upside downand leave it to cool.
-Whilst your cake is cooling down, melt your bar of chocolate.
- If your cake is cool enough, begin to crumble it into a pan or mixing bowl.
- Add your melted chocolate and stir together well so that the mix has a soft consistency.

If you want them alcohol free for your children, seperate the mix now.

- Add the rum to your mix. Go on put a little bit more in, it's Christmas!
- Mix together and simply pick up a little bit of your mixture at a time and roll it into bitesize balls.
- Roll it through whatever topping you like and then put in the fridge.

Remove them from the fridge approx 1 hour before consumption.

I hope I haven't anything out!

Let me know if you enjoyed them as much as we do!

Merry Christmas

BLOGMAS Day 11 - 10 Things I Love About Christmas Time

Its beginning to look a lot
like Christmas...

I love the build up to Christmas. There's so much going on through November and December. Christmas isn't just about the 25th December for me, its the whole process. It truly is the most magical time of year. Even when I was working in retail - although you are rushed off your feet - I loved it! Everyone just seemed happier, the atmosphere was, well... magical!

So here's a quick list of my top 10 favourite things about the build up to Christmas;

1. Liverpool's Christmas light switch on!
The past 2 years I have been working so I didn't have chance to go and see the actual switch on, so I took advvantage of being unemployed this Christmas to go and experience it. I joined Rachel from Times2style, and it was Christmassy than I could ever have imagined!

2. Christmas market!
Every year, for one month, Liverpool has a beautiful Christmas market that I make sure I visit every year (often five or more times). I make it a priority to go there. It is usually located along Church Street and Lord Street, but this year it has moved to St. Georges hall. Which is a beautiful location in itself. I love buying unique gifts that you can't buy on the high street. Then I grab something to eat from one of the many food stalls, then - my favourite part - I go and treat myself to a hot chocolate and Baileys! Yum!

3. Shopping!
Every year I say I will get myself organised and buy everyone's presents early. But where is the fun in that? The most magical time to go shopping for your loved ones is when it starts to go dark, and all the Christmas lights are on. I even love that everyone is rushing around. It just adds to the perfect Christmas shopping experience. But to stop myself from getting stressed, I write a list of everything I need to buy. Less thinking means I get to enjoy my shopping trip all the more.

4. Wrapping presents!
One of my favourite things to do is to put on my Christmas playlist and grab my self a glass of Baileys whilst I try to make my wrapping look half decent.

5. Christmas movies!
One channel gets my undevided attention every Decemer - Christmas 24. Cheesy Christmas movies on loop, is there anything better? Although there are Christmas movies that I MUST watch every December. See my Christmas Movies post for my favourites.

6. Christmas decorations!
This is a serious matter. Christmas tree ornament placement has got to be perfect. But it is still one of the most fun parts about the whole build up. I like to put on a Christmas movie or some Christmas songs to feel as Christmassy as I possibly can.

7. Christmas candles!
My house is covered in them! My obsession right now is with Yankee's Mulled Wine scent.

8. Cosy nights!
Carrying on from the Christmas candles - I love to turn the lights off, light my candles, get into one of my many Xmas pyjamas and watch Christmas movies with the fire on.

9. Christmas Eve!
I am almost 20 and I still get all excited when my mum gives me my Christmas eve present which, of course, is always a new pair of Christmas pyjamas. And I still can't get to sleep on Christmas eve. I just hope that excitement never goes.

10. Last but not least - Christmas Day itself!
Yes I still get up as early as possible. And sit impatiently downstairs - legs crossed - infront of the wrapped presents that Santa brought the 1 hour I slept that night. And then of course, the highlight of the year, the Christmas dinner!

What do you love about Christmas time?
I'd love to know, so drop me a comment below.

BLOGMAS Day 10 - Love Layla Christmas Cards

"Santa Claus has the right idea,
visit people only once a year!"

I just had to dedicate a blogmas post to this company! If you haven't already come across Love Layla on Facebook, here's a little bit about what they do - "Specialising in Graphic Design, we design and print unique Greetings Cards to give you a giggle. With 8 years experience within the Graphic Design and Print industry, our cards are designed professionally and all designs are original and our own work. Printed with industry standard printers, we produce the cards using local suppliers with a high standard finish. Purchasing one of our cards will not leave you disappointed - they create giggles and smiles all round."

I love recieving my Christmas cards in December, and although it matters what the person has wrote on the inside rather than the card itself, it is still great to recieve a card that makes you laugh everytime you look at it. Love Layla creates simple but hilarious cards at a cheap price of £3.75.

I'm sure you all will look through them and someone you know will pop into your head for each card. Here's a few of my favourites -

BLOGMAS Day 9 - Christmas Jumper's

"Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn't come
from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps,
means a little bit more!"

I'm just going to get right into this post - Christmas jumpers! They're super fun to wear around Christmas time, and I feel like xmas jumpers make other people around you feel a little more Christmasy. Like I keep saying, it's all about the magic created!

I have put together a little collection of naughty & nice Christmas jumpers. It's more like a mini catalogue to help you decided which Jumper you want this year. (Think of me as one of Santa's little helpers)

BLOGMAS Day 7 - 10 Christmas Movies

"You see, children hold the spirit
of Christmas within their hearts"

The silver lining of me being unemployed at Christmas is that I can spend my days watching every Christmas movie known to man. Xmas movies are one of my favourite parts about Christmas.
So get your pyjamas on, grab a quilt and get a cuppa and some munchies. Because you have just got to watch all of these magical movies this December!

1. ELF!
"We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corn and syrup"

Buddy (Will Ferrell) was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa's elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn't fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father. As it happens, this is Walter Hobbs (James Caan), a cynical businessman. After a DNA test proves this, Walter reluctantly attempts to start a relationship with the childlike Buddy with increasingly chaotic results.

2. Home Alone
"Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal"

Eight-year-old Kevin McCallister (Culkin) has become the man of the house overnight! Accidentally left behind when his family rushes off on a Christmas vacation, Kevin gets busy decorating the house for the holidays, but he's not decking the halls with tinsel and holly. Two bumbling burglars are trying to break in and Kevin's rigging a bewildering battery of booby traps to welcome them!

                                                                                                        3. Love Actually
"We may be a small country, but we're a great one too. The country of Shakespeare, Churchill, the Beatles, Sean Connery, Harry Potter. David Beckham's right foot, David Beckham's left foot, come to that."

Nine intertwined stories examine the complexities of the one emotion that connects us all: love. Among the characters explored are David (Hugh Grant), the handsome newly elected British prime minister who falls for a young junior staffer (Martine McCutcheon), Sarah (Laura Linney), a graphic designer whose devotion to her mentally ill brother complicates her love life, and Harry (Alan Rickman), a married man tempted by his attractive new secretary.

4. The Holiday
"You, I can tell, are a leading lady. But for some reason, you're behaving like the best friend."

Iris is in love with a man who is about to marry another woman. Across the globe, Amanda realizes the man she lives with has been unfaithful. Two women who have never met and live 6000 miles apart, find themselves in the exact same place. They meet online at a home exchange website and impulsively switch homes for the holiday. Iris moves into Amanda's L.A. house in sunny California as Amanda arrives in the snow covered English countryside. Shortly after arriving at their destinations, both women find the last thing either wants or expects: a new romance.

5. The Grinch
"4:00 wallow in self-pity. 4:30 stare into the abyss. 5:00 solve world hunger. Tell no one. 5:30 Jazzercise. 6:30 dinner with me. I can't cancel that again! 7:00 wrestle with my self-loathing... I'm booked!"

In this live-action adaptation of the beloved children's tale by Dr. Seuss, the reclusive green Grinch (Jim Carrey) decides to ruin Christmas for the cheery citizens of Whoville. Reluctantly joined by his hapless dog, Max, the Grinch comes down from his mountaintop home and sneaks into town to swipe everything holiday-related from the Whos. However, the bitter grump finds a hitch in his plans when he encounters the endearing Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen).

6. A Royal Christmas
"It's like a fairytale..... It's better. Its real"

Prince Leopold, heir to the throne of Cordinia, wishes to marry his young love Emily Taylor, a humble seamstress from Philadelphia. But Leopold's mother, Queen Isadora has other plans for her son.

7. Deck the Halls
"That's what Christmas memories are made from, they're not planned, they're not scheduled, nobody puts them in their Blackberry, they just happen."

Two neighbors have it out after one of them decorates his house for the holidays so brightly that it can be seen from space. Losing their families in the process.

10. Best Christmas Party Ever
"You throw a baseball, you plan a party!"

Jennie Stanton (Torrey DeVitto) throws the best Christmas parties every year for her company, Petra's Parties. Things are a little different this year, as Petra is retiring and looks to the next generation to take over. Jennie thinks she has her new job in the bag, until Petra's charismatic nephew, Nick (Steve Lund), shows up as "seasonal help" and his natural talent and confidence clashes with Jennie's stern work ethic and traditional values. The pair battle it out for the top job with unmistakable chemistry and symmetry, but when the new owners of the legendary Tyrell's Toys put the bottom line before Christmas spirit, threatening to pull the plug on Tyrell's Toys' annual Christmas party for the community, Jennie and Nick are forced to work together to throw the greatest Christmas party ever.

 22. Mrs Miracle
"People are funny. The want the front of the bus, the middle of the road and the back of the church."

Overwhelmed widower Seth Webster is searching for a housekeeper to help him with his unruly six year old twin sons. "Mrs. Miracle" mysteriously appears and quickly becomes an irreplaceable nanny, chef, friend... and matchmaker.

10. Bad Santa
"You're an emotional f*****g cripple, your soul is dog s**t, every single f*****g thing about you is ugly"

Fueled by cheap whiskey, greed and hatred, Willie Soke (Billy Bob Thornton) teams up with his angry little sidekick, Marcus, to knock off a Chicago charity on Christmas Eve. Along for the ride is chubby and cheery Thurman Merman, a 250-pound ray of sunshine who brings out Willie's sliver of humanity. Mommy issues arise when the pair are joined by Willie's horror story of a mother, Sunny Soke, who raises the bar for the gang's ambitions, while somehow lowering the standards of criminal behavior.

BLOGMAS Day 6 - Holiday Outfit Ideas

"Santa has to be a man. No woman would
ever wear the same outfit year after year"

Today's post was supposed to be about my handmade Christmas cards but I didn't have chance to make any because of a job interview - I got the job woo! So I decided to do my Holiday Outfit Ideas post a little earlier.

I just love picking my clothes for the holidays. So I have put together 3 outfits, one for Christmas day, one for Boxing day and one for boxing night.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the embroiderey on this skirt! Pair it with this red glitter jumper to give it an extra Christmassy feel. You can opt for a pair of black tights and ankle boots or dolly shoes.

I wore a similar outfit over the weekend - and it is definitely an option for my Christmas day outfit. (please ignore the awful picure quality)

I bought my jumper from Primark for £8 and my demin skirt (which I am totally obsessed with) from H&M for, I think, £24.99.

Keep it simple this year with these gorgeous jeans, black choker bodysuit and patent ankle boots.

Satin and a hint of silk! I adore every single one of those dresses, especially the khaki dress in the middle. They are so perfect for the Christmas season. You will definitely be the one to stand out in one of those stunning pieces.

Before I go I'd just like to say thank you to all you amazing people.
The traffic to my page has been increasing so much since my re-launch,
and even more since Blogmas. It means so much!
